Transport Canada – Did You Know??


 

There are a few new laws coming down from Transport Canada that will affect many types of Powered Surfboards in the up-and-coming years.

It is now illegal to pilot any open propeller driven surfboards in Canada, and gas-powered surfboards are becoming more under review.

I will try and summarize for you the new regulations:

·         If you have a gas-powered jet powered surfboard, you will now have to register it with Transportation Canada and provide the stickers on an easily seen surface on the board.  Please go to https://tc.canada.ca/en/search/site?key=registering%20gas%20powered%20surfboard

·         If you have / operate a hydrofoil or any open propeller type surfboard, you will be in violation of Transport Canada’s small boating laws and may be exposed to fines and or jail terms.  I could not find information on the penalties, but I am sure they are there.

·         For equipment required, one will need a life jacket or Personal Floatation Device (usually warn), and a whistle or sound device.  You will also need a Boater’s License for gas and electric powered surfboards.  There are some circumstances that allow for a proof of competency. 

In concluding, what does this mean for Create Your Wave and our product offerings?  Not much.  We stopped selling Gas Surfboards years ago, for other reasons.  Our M-11 / Maverick surfboard is an electric, jet powered surfboard, making it ready to go: “out of the box”.

Carbon Tax in Canada: What did we do??

  To start this blog, I would like to highlight that I am not an economist, not tied to any form of government, I am most simply and humbly a business person.   When we 1 st  heard of the carbon tax, it was my understanding, it was supposed to punish abusers and not all who use carbon-based fuel.  I wonder if that is the case:   * Electricity charges in pre-carbon tax were about $.05 per KWH. Now we are at about $.085 and rising   * Gas was at about $.9 per liter, now over $1.20 and on the rise.  (yes, I do realize wages have gone up.  But now over $.35 per liter is taxed and rising in Canada)   On a 1 st  brush, one may say one should simply drive less and adopt better technology for lighting and electrical use and done is done.   When I 1 st  heard of  it  I thought of the movie  Dragonheart  – Road Tax.  For those who don’t remember or know; you’ll have to watch the movie or read the book. ...

Watercraft Community – The Wave

Awhile ago I took my best friend and her daughter out on the surf boards. While we were cruising along the calm waters. Soon we got to a more congested area of boats. Although to me, it appeared we had lots of room, I noticed my best friend’s daughter appearing more and more nervous.  After a while I could see that she was actually becoming scared. To me the surroundings were as easy as waking up on a Saturday morning. To her, it appeared chaotic. Me, being myself, I came close to her and asked what is wrong. She said she wondered if anyone could see her as the boats were very large in comparison. I suggested that when ever a boat came close to simply waive. I told her it would be a great surprise for her, as naturally she is shy. It gave me great joy to see the change in her.
